ACS&T Opens New Ambient Store in Grimsby as Business Booms
July 23, 2008
Grimsby’s ACS&T Logistics, one of the UK’s leading providers of logistics solutions, has opened a new store to support rapidly increasing demand for the services of its new Production Support division. Established earlier this year, ACS&T Production Support provides food manufacturers with a cost effective storage and delivery service for ingredients which can be stored at ambient temperature and packaging materials.
“We work with our clients’ suppliers to manage product stocks, consolidate orders and deliver a single consignment to the factory door using a dedicated shuttle service”, said Carl Robinson, Sales and Commercial director of ACS&T.
"Customers have been catching on quickly to the benefits of our services which include reduced administration and the freeing up of factory storage space." He continued…“Their suppliers benefit too by being able to make just one delivery to us, we take care of everything else. But best of all perhaps, everyone in the loop has access to live information regarding stock levels and deliveries thanks to our development of a competition beating IT system. It really is a win-win solution.” This new centre has extended ACS&T’s capacity at Grimsby to three dedicated ambient stores, with the others located at their headquarters on the South Humberside Industrial Estate and at the docks. The additional capacity is ideally situated and will prove particularly useful to food businesses operating at the Europarc. Standard next day deliveries are made from the ACS&T stores to food manufacturing clients, but a four-hour turnaround for urgent orders is available when required.
ACS&T Logistics began life as the London Ice & Cold Storage Company Ltd in 1921 and built the country’s first ever cold store for fish underneath Billingsgate Market. The business went on to open the country’s first low-temperature cold store, at Grimsby, in 1934. Today ACS&T’s services are provided from four centres: Grimsby (Headquarters) Wolverhampton, Tewkesbury and Scarborough. The business currently operates 14 cold stores, 3 ambient stores, extensive co-packing facilities and large, dedicated and shared-user multi-temp transport fleets. ACS&T Logistics is a wholly owned subsidiary of Camellia plc. Camellia is an international investment company with a long-term outlook on each of its trading companies. The turnover of the group is £162M, and it employs 75,000 people in 15 countries. Forty per cent of the group’s revenue is generated from UK operations. In addition to food storage and distribution, Camellia operates in engineering, agriculture, banking and pharmaceuticals. The company is also the world’s largest independent tea producer.
